Shangri-La Journals

Welcome

Shangri-La Journals is a site dedicated to opinions, stories and photographs of travels, experiences and adventures.
As I write it is early 2007 and the site is not yet developed and building the site is still very much a learning process of knowing what to present and how to make it attractive and accessible.
Even so, a start has been made.  I am an ultralight Trike pilot and in Stories there is an account of my forced landing in a west Java palm grove. The story is based on an email I sent shortly after the event and is a detailed account of what happens when enthusiasm and a love of flight meet circumstances that lead to disaster.  The tale should be of interest to the non-flyer and will be instructive and a caution to those, like me, who adore being aloft.
In Photographs there is a range of subjects of interest.  Photographs of growing up in Assam, India, may only be of interest to my family and those that know me.  On the other hand, there are also pages related to things in China.  We live in China and travel extensively and there are, at this point photographs of Giant Pandas at Wolong and Chengdu in Sichuan Province, Tibetan prayer stones and Tibetan tents.  The Litang Horse Festival in the Tibetan Kham area of western Sichuan Province occurs every August and our 2006 visit is next on the to do list.  Future pages will deal with travels in Gansu Province and the far western reaches of the Great Wall of China.
Your comments on the site are welcome and you can contact us on the Contact Us page.
